Pennsylvania's forests are more than 90% hardwood. The Commonwealth leads the nation in volume of hardwood growing stock, production of hardwood lumber and export of hardwood lumber and wood products. Softwood trees are also available in Pennsylvania forests and are a valuable part of the industry.
