Are you interested in singing the National Anthem at the 104th Pennsylvania Farm Show? The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) will select a different individual or group to perform the National Anthem at the beginning of each day of the 104th Pennsylvania Farm Show and special events throughout the show.

Eligibility: To be eligible for selection, you must:

  • be a legal resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania;

  • be available every day of the 104th Pennsylvania Farm Show (which runs from January 4 through January 11, 2020) to be on-site at the Farm Show Complex by 7:45 a.m. to sing the National Anthem at 8:00 a.m. or an alternate assigned time to cover a special event during the show;

  • be someone other than an employee, family member or person living in the same household as an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture; and

  • if less than 18 years of age, obtain and provide the written consent of a parent or guardian if you are ultimately selected to perform.

To apply: When the contest is open, the Pennsylvania Farm Show Facebook page (https://facebook.com/pafarmshow) will publish a post where video submissions should be uploaded in the comments section. Upload a single video of yourself or your group, singing the National Anthem from start-to-finish, without instrumental accompaniment, to the original post. Submissions will be accepted from Monday, October 14, 2019 through Monday, October 28, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. EST. Video submissions for minors not on Facebook may be uploaded by a parent or guardian. The video becomes the property of PDA once it is uploaded to this Facebook page. PDA will “like” your uploaded video comment to confirm your entry into the contest.

Video requirements: your video entry must be originally recorded for the purpose of entering the 2020 Oh Say, Can You Sing? PA Farm Show National Anthem Contest. Previously recorded videos will not be accepted. The entering individual or group must sing the National Anthem from start-to-finish, without instrumental accompaniment.

Voting: PDA will review all video submissions, and select the top 12 (twelve) groups and top 12 (twelve) individuals. This internal voting will take place from Monday, October 28, 2019 through Friday, November 1, 2019. On Monday, November 4, 2019, the selected top 24 will be posted on the Farm Show Facebook page to open fan voting. Fan voting will take place from Monday, November 4, 2019 through Monday, November 11, 2019. Voting will close on Monday, November 11, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. EST. The top 7 (seven) videos for each category (group and individual), based on total reactions (likes, loves, wows, etc) will serve as our finalists to sing during the 104th Pennsylvania Farm Show. PDA retains sole discretion to select and schedule these singers. The top video, based on total reactions, from the entire top 24 (twenty-four), will be chosen as the singer(s) for Opening Ceremonies on Saturday, January 4, 2020.

Winner Notification: Winners will be notified via private Facebook message and required to confirm their availability on a specific date and time during the Farm Show. Winners have until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 to respond to the message and confirm their availability.
